VTU SGPA and CGPA Calculator

VTU grades on a 10-point scale weighted by credits, so a 4-credit subject moves your SGPA twice as much as a 2-credit one. Enter each subject's credits and grade to get the semester figure, then combine semesters for CGPA.

Common trap: SGPA is credit-weighted, not a plain average of your grades — a 4-credit subject pulls twice as hard as a 2-credit one. And a failed subject (F = 0) still counts its credits in the denominator, so one backlog drags the whole semester down until you clear it.

The formula

Worked example

Five subjects: 4 cr A+, 4 cr A, 3 cr O, 3 cr B+, 2 cr A.

  1. Credit points: (4×9) + (4×8) + (3×10) + (3×7) + (2×8)
  2. = 36 + 32 + 30 + 21 + 16 = 135
  3. Total credits: 4+4+3+3+2 = 16
  4. SGPA = 135 / 16

SGPA = 8.44 for the semester.

Checking results, working out what you need next semester to reach a target CGPA, and converting to a percentage for job applications — VTU's usual formula is (CGPA − 0.75) × 10.
