Fuse vs MCB
Fuse (glass/blade/SMD/thermal) and MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) compared — what each is better at, and which one the job actually calls for.
A fuse is a wire that melts: cheap, very fast on a hard short circuit, and gone once it has operated. An MCB is a reusable mechanism with a defined trip curve — a thermal element for sustained overload, a magnetic one for short circuit — and it doubles as a switch you can operate by hand. Modern installations use MCBs because resetting one is a lever rather than a trip to the shop, not because the protection is fundamentally better.
What each one is
Fuse (glass/blade/SMD/thermal)
A deliberate weak link that melts and breaks the circuit when current exceeds a safe level, protecting wiring and devices from fire and damage. One-shot (or resettable).
MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)
A resettable mains circuit breaker that trips on overload or short circuit, protecting house/building wiring. Replaces rewireable fuses; just switch it back on after a trip.

How to choose
Fuse (glass/blade/SMD/thermal)
Rate just above normal operating current (≈1.25-2x), with voltage >= circuit voltage and adequate breaking capacity. Slow-blow for inrush loads (motors, supplies); fast for sensitive electronics.
MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)
Size In to the cable's safe current (not the load) and coordinate with wire gauge. Type B for general/lighting, C for motors/AC, D for heavy inrush. Breaking capacity >= prospective fault current. Pair with an RCD/RCBO for shock protection.
How each one fails
Fuse (glass/blade/SMD/thermal)
Blows (its job) on overcurrent; nuisance-blows if under-rated for inrush; corroded holder gives intermittent contact.
MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)
Nuisance tripping (under-rated or faulty), fails to trip (dangerous - replace), worn contacts, loose terminals causing heat.
